Henbury - Awesome Sculpted Pieces
Henbury 28.78g sculpted individual, nice backside thumbprinting
The Henbury iron IIIAB meteorite was found in Australia in 1931, with over 2 metric tons of the specimen recovered to date. These individuals feature unique and aesthetic shapes with many regmaglypts or thumbprints punctuating their surfaces. Specimens feature a desert varnish that you don't see on recently recovered material (Mr R Bedford, who recovered more than 1000 lbs of material in 1931, had given much thought and study regarding surface finds of Henbury meteorites states, "... the exposed surface is covered by a limonite glaze of secondary origin, due to hydration of a thin film of the original surface scale and iron; this glaze forms an extremely hard protective patina and may be responsible for the perfect preservation of the surface features" - R Bedford: Surface Markings of the Henbury Meteorites, Nature April 14, 1934). This lot was acquired from an old collection through a dealer at the Denver gem and mineral show. You don't see sculpted Henbury individuals like this very often, so buy now to add one to your collection. These beautiful Henbury meteorites comes with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale.
