A new iron meteorite has been discovered in the Jilf al Kabir plateau region of Egypt in 2009. Around 100kg of shrapnel material have been recovered near the 40m crater, and a sample has been submitted to the Russian Institute of Meteoritics for analysis toward classification. The preliminary results indicate an Ataxite-anomalous classification, which should be approved by the Nomination Committee of the Meteoritical Society imminently. The bulk of this meteorite has been introduced at the Ensisheim show in France in June 2010, and the Big Kahuna is among the first to offer this exciting new crater forming iron to the collection world at rock-bottom prices. Mirko Graul is also offering beautifully prepared slices and endcuts of this material that clearly show inclusions that appear to be Shreibersite, further suggesting the authenticity of this find as being of meteoritic origin and not one of wartime munitions.
